Dear friends of “Goldmonks”

Where do we even begin with this?

How can we put to words the swarm of emotions that are bottling up inside our weary hearts, for this beautiful city and its beautiful people?

Our customers and us the brothers (shop owners) miraculously came out without a scratch, even though the café which suffered substantial damage is less than a kilometer away from the explosion, We are very grateful indeed to be alive. However, seeing everything we have worked so hard to build disappear in seconds, seeing the people and the neighborhood that we love so much torn in pieces, has brought up a pain and sorrow in us that we’ve never experienced before.

Ever since Our doors opened in the 5th of September last year, we have endured countless tragedies, starting from the time of the revolution, to COVID-19, the Lebanese pound devaluation, even the flooding of the stairs where our shop is located and major electrical cuts, all followed up by this Catastrophe. Yet our mission has always been the same which is “to infuse people with a sense of well-being & the contentment of being present in the moment.” And many of you have sent us very emotional messages, offering help and support, financial and non-financial, which has warmed our hearts so much in these sorrowful times. So we have been motivated to start this fund to which you can help us rebuild Golmonks Mar Mikhael.

And still It feels so heavy considering the restoration of our business this early, at the time when Beirut is still covered with the blood of the innocent, and people searching for remnants of what they once called “home”. Yet reflecting back on this horrific event, we have realized that the blast (intended or not), has not only destroyed buildings and stolen human lives. It has slipped a knife in the very heart of our unique culture. Mar Mikhael, Gemmayze and Ashrafieh. The most vibrant and fashionable areas in Beirut that are filled with cafes, restaurants, art galleries, bakeries and shops, suffered the heaviest damage. That is why we feel that we are under an obligation to “NOT” allow for the demolition of the “ spirit ‘ of our beloved Beirut.

Thank you for all your love and care.

The Brothers/Owners of Goldmonks
