Our sweet Goldy girl was born with severe bilateral conductive hearing loss along with microtia atresia on her left ear and a collapsed canal on her right in addition to heart problems a (PDA & PFO).
What this means is she has about a 65 decibel hearing loss in each ear meaning the doorbell sounds like wind chimes to her and on a daily basis unless my two year old screams or a neighbors dog barks she hears nothing at all meaning her brain is not being stimulated and her brain is not developing properly. Luckily her inner ears are good making her a candidate for a BAHA (bone anchored hearing aid) which is attached to a head band. The bad news is these devices cost $10,000 and we need 2.
These hearing aids are only the start of Goldy's journey. They are just to get her to hear for the next 5-6 years until she is a candidate for the series of 5-8 reconstructive surgeries to build her a "normal" ear and ear canal. Aside from her heart surgery that will be taking place sometime this month.
Time is of the essence because each day she doesn't hear is another day she isn't learning and growing into the best human she can be. The specialist say that each month she doesn't hear the more developmentally behind she will be and the difference between getting hearing aids now versus getting them down the road is the difference between her being able to learn and speak normally versus speaking with major speech impediments or in other words "sounding deaf". Not to mention it's hard on my mama heart because I don't want to go another day without telling her "I love you" and her hearing it.
Trust me, I know everyone has their own lives filled with bills and issues of their own which is why I've debated on doing this but I've had a few people reach out wanting to donate already so I'm making this for those who feel so inclined.
