Help Goldfish fight FIP!
Donation protected
Hi! My sweet baby Goldfish, more commonly called Goldie, came home from the vet with an FIP diagnosis (Feline Infections Peritonitis) on December 14th. Without treatment, this infection is a death sentence. Thankfully, a treatment has been found, but not yet FDA approved. It’s a rough and long trial of daily injections for 84 days, as long as treatment and improvements go as planned. The injections are followed by another 84 days of observation. If everything goes as planned (fingers crossed!!) Goldie’s graduation date from injections will be March 8th. There are different forms of it (wet, dry, neuro, ocular), but Goldie is suspected to have the dry form of FIP, in which granular masses form throughout the body and cause damage to internal organs. Goldie was very lethargic and skinny despite still eating, and I had a feeling there was some underlying issue. As of now, Goldie has completed a week of treatment (starting December 16th). After just the first injection or two, she was playing again, eating more and gaining weight; getting back to the Goldfish I knew when she first stole my heart. Lil Goldie is my baby and I would do anything for her, especially anything to save her life. The cost of treatment does make this a little difficult though. For the brand I am currently using, medication is $56-$115 per vial which is either 5.2mL or 10mL. Currently, a large vial will last us 10 days, but her dose will continue to go up with her weight. On top of medication costs, there’s the cost of supplies, such as needles and syringes, vet visits for bloodwork every 4 weeks, and normal necessities, like wet & dry food, litter, treats, etc..
Goldfish will be 1 year old January 10th, and I’m so thankful to be able to allow her a life full of love (and some painful pokes from treatment!) to let her see a full year, with hopefully many more to come.
Goldie and I would appreciate any sort of help or support while going through this treatment <3.
