Gokce Vera Vardar was born in November 2020 without a right ear, a condition known as Microtia Type 3. She lives in Turkey with her parents and brother, and from the very beginning, her family dreamed of her being able to hear their voices. After a successful fundraising effort, Gokce Vera and her family traveled to the United States, where she underwent a complex 8-hour surgery with Dr. Joseph Roberson at the California Ear Institute. The procedure was a huge step forward, giving hope to her family and everyone who supported her journey.
Unfortunately, the implant used during Gokce Vera’s surgery developed cracks—a rare manufacturing defect that has affected a certain batch of implants within a six-month window. If left untreated, the broken fragments could pierce her skin and cause a serious infection. Gokce Vera’s doctor has warned that she urgently needs a revision surgery to replace the implant and prevent further complications. This means Gokce Vera and her family must travel back to California for another operation, as this specialized care is only available there.
An Unfinished Miracle: Our 5-year-old daughter, Gokce Vera, was born without an outer ear or ear canal (Microtia Type 3). Our only dream was for her to be able to hear our voices. This miracle became a reality following an 8-hour surgery performed by Dr. Joseph Roberson in California. However, the ear implant fractured in three places due to manufacturing defects. Our doctor has warned us that unless an emergency revision surgery is performed, the broken fragments could pierce the skin and lead to an infection. Time is working against us. We need support for the surgery, as well as accommodation and travel expenses for a one-month post-operative follow-up period. Gokce Vera needs your support.
The family also needs to cover travel, accommodation, and transportation expenses during their time in California. These costs are overwhelming for Gokce Vera’s family, who have already faced so much. They are reaching out for help, hoping that kind-hearted people will join them in giving Gokce Vera the chance to heal and thrive. Your support can make all the difference in this unfinished miracle—please consider helping Gokce Vera and her family during this critical time.
