Help GMAD Become a Community Health Center

Help Gay Men of African Descent (GMAD) as we make a transformation from a community-based HIV prevention and educational center to a community health center.

GMAD was formed in 1986 by a group of Black gay men in New York City  intent on supporting each other. As an all-volunteer organization, GMAD’s weekly Friday Forum became a meeting place for sharing concerns and celebrating victories. In the early 1990s as the AIDS crisis hit Black gay men, GMAD began receiving governmental funding to provide HIV prevention services. Over the next twenty years these services to New Yorkers grew from condom distribution information sharing to HIV counseling and testing, and case management services. In the last ten years funding related to AIDS and HIV has shifted from prevention to care. GMAD is responding to this shift by expanding our services to include primary health care, while continuing to provide the HIV prevention and social support services that have been our signature since 1986.  In early 2020 we expect to receive authorization to provide primary health care services.  We need your support for working capital that will enable us to keep moving forward as we await this designation.  Your donation of $25, $50, $100, or any amount will help us to reach our goal of providing services as a community health center. Thank you.
