Help Gloria Get a New Heart

Four years ago, my life changed dramatically when I was diagnosed with heart failure. After spending ten days in the hospital, I returned home with a life vest and soon underwent surgery for a pacemaker defibrillator. I tried to adjust to my new normal, but in early 2024, I faced another challenge: a diagnosis of colon cancer. Thankfully, my surgery in March was successful, and the doctors were able to remove the cancer with clear margins. I am deeply grateful for that outcome.

  • However, my health continued to be unpredictable. In April, I went into AFib and had a heart ablation in July to help control it. As the year went on, I felt less and less okay. My cardiologist told me I had reached the stage of severe advanced heart failure and referred me to the Oschner heart transplant center in New Orleans. I was scheduled for a consultation in January 2026, but my condition worsened, and I was admitted early, spending December 22 to January 2 in the hospital. Now, I am undergoing testing to hopefully be added to the UNOS organ donor list for a new heart. Everything about this process is overwhelming and very serious. As it turns out I was beyond the option of a transplant as I have O+ and a very small frame. The chance of a heart was very slim. I continued to get worse. Every thing escalated and I was moved up for surgery..I have an LVAD, left ventricle assist device. After the surgery there was a possible chest bleed so I was rushed back to reopen my chest and check. I was lucky and they didn't flind a bleed. Also, going through that twice not so fun.
  • I am recovering now feeling better each day.

The expenses I am facing are more than I could ever imagine. I will need help with travel for treatment, living expenses, and medical bills. Your support will help me get through this challenging time and give me the chance to thrive after recovery. I thank each of you in advance for helping me get through this medical diagnosis, treatment, and recovery. I never dreamed at 64 I would require a new heart to continue living. Thank you.
