Hello! My name is Melissa, my siblings and I have decided to set up a GoFundMe page for our mother Gloria Chavez. Our mother has always been a hard worker, working 3 jobs to make ends meet. Many of you may know her from working at Pioneer and Sanchez Elementary as a para educator, or at Lafayette Elementary working with special education children. And as of late, she’s a lead teacher at KinderCare.
Sadly, at the end of September 2019, we found out our mother was diagnosed with stage 4 ovarian cancer (HGSOC) which was caused by a mutated BRCA gene. The cancer has spread into her bowel, liver and at this point possibly her spine. Our mother was told to have surgery on October 10th, 2019 and the goal of the surgery was to remove both ovaries and as much of the tumors as possible. After her procedure, the surgeon informed us they were unable to complete the procedure because the tumors were attached to her bowels. Our mother started chemotherapy on October 21st, and just completed her 5th round on January 17th, 2020. After her 6th round of chemotherapy her doctors would like to perform another surgery in hopes to remove the remainder of her ovaries and tumors. Our mother is the sole provider of her household and we are asking for some help for her medical bills as well as her personal bills through this difficult time. There is no amount too small and if you can't donate please share this page so maybe others can. My family and I thank each and every one of you. Please keep our mother in your prayers.
Gloria has been fortunate to receive funding from various foundations (Ray of Hope and Colorado Ovarian Cancer Alliance). Which have helped her tremendously but with the cost of treatment she is still in need of assistance.
We would also like to thank Harry Lozinski for your generous donation.
