Help Globzo Get EDS Treatment and Pain Management

For most of his life, Globzo was healthy, athletic, and strong. He exercised all the time, and worked full-time through his first two years of college. He went back and forth between campus and work on political campaigns, which he loved. He was proud to be doing good and to be supporting himself.

In the fall of 2022, he became sick with what was eventually diagnosed as Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome. He was later also diagnosed with Ehlers-Danlos syndrome, a genetic connective tissue disorder which causes a whole host of issues. He amassed a team of doctors, none of whom understood the whole of his situation. An old therapist begged him to try and get to the Mayo Clinic or see some other experienced diagnostician because she could see that he was suffering in ways that weren’t being treated.

His symptoms worsened to the point where he could no longer do the job he loved. He lost a large amount of weight and stamina, and being on his feet throughout the day became far too painful. Although his family has done everything possible to try and help, he has been unable to support himself and has had to move back to Rhode Island to live with his mother. As a result, he now has to rebuild his medical team, and what little progress was being made is now stagnating or moving backwards.

Now Globzo has learned about the Center for Complex Conditions of RI, regarded as one of the few great places to go for people who have EDS and its many comorbidities. Reading about this place has brought hope that he might actually start to be himself again, or at least be looked at as a whole person.

Unfortunately, the consultation appointment is so long and comprehensive that his insurance provider will not cover it, and the out of pocket cost is $2,000. This office is booking next month, whereas the other practices he has been able to get in contact with have very little availability, and require referrals from other offices and doctors he does not have yet.

Globzo desperately misses little things like riding a bike and enjoying a meal. He is exhausted from consulting with so many doctors who focus only on one tiny piece of what’s going on. There is no guarantee that Dr. Chopra at the Center for Complex Conditions will be able to improve his quality of life, but right now he is Globzo's best shot.

Globzo wants his life back, he wants to be independent again, and he needs treatment and pain management to do so.

We are asking for help so he can pursue this chance.
