The 2022 full-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine changed people’s lives, including our own. We wanted to do something to help and asked ourselves how we could apply our 30+ years of developing international community service programs to help Ukrainians.
In July 2022, we launched the Global Service Corps Ukraine Program with a simple model: free, trauma-informed, online English conversation clubs co-facilitated by native English-speaking and Ukrainian volunteers. We didn’t do this alone. We did it alongside Ukrainian partners who guide content, advise on cultural context, and co-create the future.
Since July 2022, we have witnessed firsthand greater confidence and improved English-speaking skills along with growing friendships and a sense of expanded community. This has been a heart-warming and humbling experience of building friendships and mutual cultural understanding, while providing help to those coping with life in the backdrop of war. We want to offer this experience of language and community to many more Ukrainians. We need your help to do so. Our work continues.
With the war now in its fourth year, people’s nerves are increasingly frayed, their mental health more fragile. We must continue to stay in community and not abandon them now. We are poised to take the next bold step — expanding our reach, deepening our impact, and ensuring that this program can grow sustainably while serving many more Ukrainians.
The Global Service Corps Ukraine Program is entirely gift dependent. We can only do this work because of donors who believe in global connection, education, and healing through service. Below are specific giving opportunities and the real costs to sustain and expand the Ukraine Program from September 1, 2025, through August 31, 2026.
Ukrainian Leadership and Support
$900 supports our part-time program assistant, a Ukrainian graduate student for three months
$3,600 supports this Ukrainian program assistant for an entire program year
Program Infrastructure and Growth
$6,000 covers Global Service Corps' annual administration costs, including maintaining our 501(c)(3) nonprofit status and essential office operations. Global Service Corps stateside staff presently serve on a volunteer, unpaid basis.
$32,000 allows us to hire a part-time U.S.-based administrator (presently a volunteer) who will lead social media, program operations, and volunteer/participant recruitment for one year
