Glenda is my 82-year-old sister, and she’s been through more than anyone should have to bear. She’s a cancer patient who recently had a Watchman placement for her heart, and she ambulates with a walker. Just weeks ago, a fire destroyed half of her home. She lost her home insurance after her husband died, unable to pay the premium, and now she’s living in the only bedroom that didn’t burn—with no electricity. Her son works out of town on the pipeline and took FMLA to care for her, but we’ve had no luck getting assistance from Red Cross, Salvation Army, FEMA, or any other organizations. My own funds are exhausted, and doctors have postponed her stomach cancer surgery and chemo because her living conditions aren’t safe for recovery.

Glenda can go to assisted living for medical care, but she can’t return to her home of 60 years. It pains me deeply that elderly people in true need can’t get help. I’ve reached out to the medical community, tried to find organizations that donate time and supplies, but no one has shown up. One month later, we’re still waiting. If anyone can help, I dearly appreciate any support or advice. Glenda has worked her entire life, paid taxes, and deserves to live out her days in the home she loves.
