I do not mean to shock or upset anyone and I apologize in advance for not telling certain people the status of my health sooner (you know who you are). I am currently battling stage 4 germ cell cancer and need a Stem Cell Transplant at USC medical center. Some of you already know my back story and others I didn’t contact because I really didn’t want to go into details when my illness started in September 2018. Partially out of pride and partially because I did not realize the seriousness of my situation.
Initially I was given 3 to 6 months to live because of how far along the cancer was when it was diagnosed (People go to the doctor when you are suppose to, especially my older friends). Initially I did 4 rounds of Chemo and at the time I thought I had gotten lucky and beaten it. Even though I still had a 4” inch tumor in my abdomen it was in remission and getting smaller by the day so the doctors and I opted for not doing surgery. Fast forward a year and a half and in hindsight that was a big mistake, the tumor is back with a vengeance at 7” and has decided to add my throat and tongue to the mix. At the beginning of my 2018 diagnosis the cancer was everywhere, in my abdomen, on my sternum and wrapped around my heart & spine.
I am scheduled to travel to California March 27th and undergo a procedure called a Stem Cell Transplant at USC Medical Center. This will put me out of commission for approximately 8-12 weeks if everything goes right (much longer if it doesn’t). I will need to travel to and from California multiple times while the procedure takes place. As you may imagine this is not an inexpensive undertaking (Hundreds of thousand of dollars) fortunately most of the medical procedure is covered on my insurance, however there is a massive amount of expenses such as travel, lodging for me and my caregiver, food and home health care between multiple procedures, not to mention my mortgage and normal living expenses here in Las Vegas. My dad passed away in February of 2020 (He helped me through the last Chemo mentally and physically) and I have been unemployed since Covid-19 started in March of 2020 both of these events have put a tremendous strain on me financially. 2020 was definitely not my best year; cancer diagnosis, loss of primary income and besides the stress of losing my father he contributed half of our living expenses. Although he did not contribute to the living expenses my cat Jesse (My buddy of 20 years) also passed away in January.
Everyone that knows me knows I am not a fan of asking for help but at this point do not know what else to do. Any small amount of money you can spare would greatly be appreciated and I promise it will go to paying down the above expenses. Every little bit helps.
If you are not able to help financial maybe you can help with the following...
It will probably be awhile before I get my strength back and can return to work fulltime, so my plan is to try to sell miscellaneous items on places like Ebay, Craigslist and Facebook Marketplace, this will allow me to work sporadically from home while I am recuperating and getting my strength back. However from my experience I will not be able to spend much time outside the house hunting for items at garage sales and estate sales due to massive fatigue that comes along with chemotherapy. Therefore, any donations of items that you might normally donate to Goodwill, Savers, Salvation Army, etc. would greatly be appreciated, you would be surprised how much some random household items sell for online sometimes. My friends that are local if you contact me, when I am able I will give you an example list of the types of items that I am looking for.
Thanks in advance.
