Our beautiful mother, Gladys Saavedra, contracted Covid19 while visiting family in Colombia in early January with severe respiratory and kidney issues. After being put in an induced coma, her heart stopped for 8 minutes. She miraculously fought her way back and has been on a ventilator since. Anyone that knows mom knows what a kind and loving human being she is. She is the best mother, grandmother, and friend. She loves God, her church, family, friends, and her community. She loves to serve and help others in any way she can. Our mom has been through so many hardships in her life and she has always overcome every obstacle. She has taught us to be faithful through any storm. God is good, our mother is very strong and she still wants to live. She wants to see her children achieve their dreams, to see her grandchildren grow up, and to share her testimony.
It has been difficult not being able to be by her side during these difficult times. We would love nothing more than to hold her little hand, talk to her, and comfort her. Our hearts are heavy, but we are faithful that God will continue to intervene. We know that ultimately he is in control.
A few days ago, the sedation drip was turned off and our mom was able to open her eyes for the first time in weeks. Her journey to recovery is still very long and she will begin physical therapy soon. Unfortunately our moms insurance is not covered in Colombia and the hospital bill is continuing to rise. We will need to pay this bill before she leaves the hospital. She will also need additional therapy once she leaves the hospital and may be out of work for some time. We will need to fly her on a medical flight as soon as she is released.
We are so thankful for all of the prayers we have received for our mom and we know that God is working and performing miracles. We are thankful for the doctors, nurses, friends, and family who have been helping during this journey. We know that this is a difficult time for everyone, Covid-19 has changed everyone's life.
