Help Gizmo Get the Care He Deserves

Hi, my name is Mikayla, and I’m raising money to help my sweet senior cat Gizmo get urgent veterinary care.

Gizmo has been my companion since I was 11. He’s been there for me through so many chapters of life— now it’s my turn to be there for him. Over the past few months, Gizmo has lost a significant amount of weight and recently began showing worrying signs: diarrhea, vomiting white foam, decreased appetite, and visible discomfort. This week, it became clear that something is seriously wrong. I scheduled a vet appointment at a local pet hospital.

Gizmo has now stayed at the vet for several nights receiving IV fluids, medications, and round-the-clock care. After multiple tests, he’s been diagnosed with megacolon, which means his colon is severely stretched and unable to pass stool properly. There’s also a suspicious narrowing (stricture) in his rectum that the vet is concerned may be cancerous, though this hasn’t been confirmed yet. On March 28th, he’ll undergo anesthesia to manually remove the blockage, and the vet will do further imaging to evaluate the stricture more closely. Depending on what’s found, he may need long-term medication, special diet, and possibly even surgery and a biopsy if cancer is suspected. These costs are adding up quickly—hospitalization, diagnostics, IV fluids, x-rays, barium studies, and ongoing medications. What started as a $60 exam has grown into a much larger bill, and I’m doing everything I can to make sure Gizmo gets the care he needs to stay comfortable and continue healing.

I’m facing the reality that his care may cost more than I can cover alone. I lost my other childhood cat, Toby, very suddenly in 2021. I wasn’t able to be there for him at the end, and I’ve carried that weight ever since. I don’t want Gizmo’s story to end that way. I want to give him comfort, support, and a real chance at a long life.
