Help give two black kittens and Phd student a home
Donation protected
I’m an international PhD student in Computer Science at Florida International University. In 2024, I adopted two little black kittens who’d been overlooked at the shelter—nothing against them, but “black cats” often wait the longest for a home. They quickly became my constant companions and the greatest relief from the stress and isolation of grad school.
Because of my “single‐entry” F-1 visa, I haven’t been able to leave the U.S. to see my family in almost five years. Between long-distance relationships and the uncertainty of returning home, I’ve struggled with depression and loneliness—and these two kittens have literally saved my mental health.
Unfortunately, FIU housing has refused to recognize both of them as emotional support animals. Even though my physician prescribed both kittens for my well‐being—and despite my academic record (straight A’s and published research under FIU’s name), I’m being forced to surrender one of them or move out. The only way I can keep my little family together is to find off-campus housing that accepts two cats.
Miami is one of the most expensive rental markets in the country, and as a funded research assistant my stipend simply doesn’t cover first month’s rent, a security deposit, pet deposits, and basic moving costs. That’s why I’m asking for help:
Any contribution, no matter how small, will make an enormous difference. You’ll be giving me back the only family I have here, and protecting my mental health at a time when I need it most. From the bottom of my heart, thank you for helping me keep my babies safe and together.
