Steve Buckley was bright, kind, and full of laughter — always checking on friends and sharing a joke. But in the past two years, he struggled with mental health - the kind that confuses reality, isolates you, and convinces you that the world has turned against you, which left him isolated, homeless, and alone.
In early September, Steve was found dead on a park bench in Woodward Park, alone. The description was heartbreaking — unkept, dirty, and clearly unhoused for some time. There was no foul play, just the quiet erosion of a good man’s life.
For over a month, Steve’s body has remained unclaimed at the Fresno County morgue while officials searched for next of kin to claim his body. With no success, the coroner has given me the chance to claim his body and give him the peace and dignity he deserves.
Please help me give Steve a proper farewell. He was once full of light, laughter, and promise — and he deserves to leave this world with the same grace he once gave to others.
Even the smallest contribution will help bring closure, love, and humanity to a story that shouldn’t have ended this way.
