Hi. I'm Neil. We've a very sick cat, our beloved tortoiseshell named Sansa, that's in dire straits right now. She's been fighting cancer for a while, and she was finally in remission, and the chemo was making her anemic, so we took her off chemo. Her anemia got better, but she was hit with a horrible bout of pancreatitis and muscle weakness. The muscle weakness turned out to be from low potassium levels, but the internist wanted to try a different kind of chemo to help with her intestinal issues. After one dose of that, her anemia is now critical.
We've ceased all chemotherapy. And we've put her on a drug that MAY help with her anemia, but the internist isn't really sure what's causing it, so it's a bit of a long shot. The biggest problem is that, if it does work, it will take time to work -- time she simply may not have. Our emergency option is to give her a blood transfusion, which may buy her enough time for the drug (Varenzin) to help her boost her red blood cell production.
And this is where we need help. Transfusions aren't cheap. We're looking at a bill of anywhere from $4000-6000 as a 'ballpark estimate' from the only place equipped to do a feline blood transfusion in this area. We'd love to give Sansa a chance to fight back to her old self again.
I've never really felt comfortable asking for money. But it's not for us. It's for our little girl. And I just can't sit here and do nothing while she fades away. If you are able to donate or share this fundraiser, just know that we appreciate every little bit of help we can get.
