Inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji’un.

On Wednesday 28 October 2026, our family experienced a loss that we never imagined we would be facing so soon. Our beloved father, Mohammed Abdur Roquib, passed away suddenly at the age of 63, after suffering a cardiac arrest whilst working his shift at Oldham Hospital.

In the morning, we saw our father as we normally would, not knowing it would be the last time we would ever see him alive. Within hours, we were faced with the heartbreaking reality of losing the man who had been our greatest protection our entire lives.

Our father had worked at Oldham Hospital as an Interpreter for nearly 30 years. For almost three decades, he walked through those hospital doors, across many departments and wards doing a job he held so dearly whilst building friendships with people he had worked alongside and had the fortune to meet for years.

But our father was much more than the job he did. He was a father, a husband, a grandfather, our first teacher and someone who was always there when people needed him. Many people across the Oldham community knew our father for his kindness and willingness to help others. He was the kind of person who would give his time to someone without thinking twice. If somebody needed help, advice or simply someone to turn to, our dad would do what he could. He never made a big deal out of helping people. It was simply who he was.

Since his passing, our family has received so many messages, phone calls and condolences from people who knew him. Some worked alongside him at the hospital, some knew him for decades, while others remember him because of something he once did to help them.

Hearing these stories has been incredibly emotional for us. As his children, we knew him as our dad, the man we grew up with, the person who was always part of our lives. But hearing how many other lives he touched has reminded us just how much he meant to the people around him.

We have lost our father, but so many others have lost a friend and someone they knew they could rely on. And while we are still trying to come to terms with his passing, there is one thing we want to do for him. We want to continue the kindness he showed throughout his life.

A Final Gift for Our Father

When someone we love passes away, we often find ourselves wishing we could do just one more thing for them. One more conversation. One more embrace. One more chance to tell them how much they mean to us. For our family, those moments are no longer possible. But as Muslims, we believe there is still something we can do for our father. We can give Sadaqah on his behalf.

The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught us that when a person passes away, their deeds come to an end except for three, including ongoing charity, known as Sadaqah Jariyah.

This is something that brings our family comfort. The thought that even though our father is no longer with us, we can still do something that may benefit him in the hereafter. Hence why we have decided to raise money to build homes for families living in poverty in Bangladesh, as Sadaqah in memory of our beloved father, Mohammed Abdur Roquib.

We don’t want this to be just another fundraiser. We want it to be something that reflects the person our father was. A man who spent his life helping others deserves to be remembered through an act of kindness that will change another family’s life.

A Home That Will Change a Family’s Life

Through our family charity, Nessa’s Trust, we have spent years helping families living in these conditions. We have seen what happens when a family is given the keys to their first proper home.

The happiness on their faces. The relief of knowing their children finally have somewhere safe to sleep. The tears from parents who never imagined they would have a home of their own. Those are moments that stay with you.

And now, more than ever, we want to give another family that same happiness. Not just because they need a home, but because we want our father’s memory to be part of something that brings comfort and happiness to others.

There is something incredibly painful about losing a parent so suddenly. You go from having them in your life every single day to trying to understand how life will carry on without them.

Our father was only 63. He had so much more life to live, so many more moments to share with his family and so many more people to help. We never imagined we would be organising his funeral and saying goodbye to him at this stage of our lives.

But we also know that our time in this world is temporary, and that one day we will all return to Allah. What matters is the good we leave behind.

Our dad spent nearly 30 years helping people at Oldham Hospital. He was known by so many in the community. We want that kindness to continue, even after his passing.

There is something beautiful about knowing that a family in Bangladesh could one day be sitting together in their new home, sharing meals, raising their children and making memories, all because people came together to remember our father.

A family who may never have met him, but whose lives will be better because of him. And every time we see that home, we will remember why we built it. For our dad.

How Your Donations Will Be Used

All donations raised through this appeal will go towards building a home for families living in poverty in Bangladesh.

The project will be delivered through Nessa’s Trust, the charity our family established to support some of the most vulnerable families in Bangladesh. Over the years, we have helped build homes for families who were living in extremely difficult conditions, and we hope to continue that work in our father’s memory.

The construction of this home will be personally overseen by our project manager in Bangladesh, Mamunur Rahman, who has worked closely with us on our charitable projects.

He will oversee the construction process, ensuring the funds are used towards providing a safe and secure home for a family who desperately needs one.

We will document the project and share updates with everyone who contributes, from the early stages of construction to the moment the family receives their completed home. We want every person who donates to see exactly what their generosity has helped achieve.

If our father ever helped you, worked alongside you, offered you kindness or was simply someone you knew, we would be incredibly grateful if you could make a donation in his memory.

And even if you never had the opportunity to meet him, we welcome you to be part of something that we hope will bring happiness to a family who needs it. Every donation, no matter how small, will bring us closer to building this home.

If you cannot donate, please share this appeal with your family and friends. Your support means more to us than we can put into words.

A Dua for Our Beloved Father

Above everything else, we ask you to remember our father in your duas. Please ask Allah to forgive his sins and shortcomings, accept every good deed he carried out throughout his life and grant him the highest ranks of Jannatul Firdaus.

We pray that Allah accepts this Sadaqah on his behalf and allows the home we build to become a source of ongoing reward for him. We also ask that if our father ever wronged or upset anyone, knowingly or unknowingly, please find it in your heart to forgive him.

Our dad spent his life helping others. Now we are asking you to help us do something for him.

Mohammed Abdur Roquib (1963–2026)

May every brick laid, every prayer made and every moment of happiness in this home become a source of reward for our beloved father. Ameen. JazakAllah Khair for helping us honour his memory.

With love and gratitude,
The children and family of Mohammed Abdur Roquib
