We are raising funds to help our dad, Allan, aged 54. Our dad has early-onset dementia and has now reached an advanced stage of the condition.
As a result, he has lost a significant amount of mobility and can no longer safely get in or out of a car without support from multiple people. He is also struggling with stairs at home and needs physical assistance for basic movement, which is becoming increasingly difficult and distressing for him and for us as a family.
At the moment, even simple things like attending medical appointments or going out for a short family visit require several of us to physically lift and support him. This is not only unsafe, but it is also taking away his dignity, comfort, and independence.
Before his illness, our dad was a self-employed joiner. He took great pride in his work, loved helping people, and was happiest when he was doing something practical or sitting with a cup of tea having a chat.
We are hoping to raise funds for two essential pieces of support:
* A wheelchair accessible vehicle so he can travel safely to appointments and spend time with his family, including his young grandchildren aged 4, 6, 8 and 11.
* A stairlift or home mobility solution to help him move safely between floors at home
Being able to leave the house safely and stay in his own home for as long as possible is incredibly important. He is only 54, and we want to give him the best possible quality of life, comfort, and dignity.
We have explored available support options, but unfortunately current assessments have not covered the equipment needed. This means we are trying to bridge the gap ourselves so he is not left isolated or at risk.
Any donation, no matter how small, will go directly towards improving his safety and independence. If you are unable to donate, sharing this page would also mean a great deal to us.
Thank you for taking the time to read our story.
