Hi, my name is Chloe and I am raising emergency vet funds for my sweet, loving foster Lola. Lola is an 11 year old Puggle with a heart of gold. Lola was surrendered last week after being kept locked in a room for several years and neglected. I took her quickly, spur of the moment to prevent her from being put down at the Shelter. When surrendered, she was underfed, terrified, had a clear untreated UTI, and was weak. I have taken her to the vet and on top of her UTI, she has to undergo a multitude of procedures:
1. Biopsy of multiple masses on her back
2. Removal of Mammary chain (These two procedures will determine if it is benign or malignant).
3. Full dental + teeth extractions
4. Potential treatment for bladder stones
These procedures will be done at Heart of Brooklyn Veterinary Center in Brooklyn, New York.
Although we have a lot of interest from potential adopters, we want to make sure Lola has a clean bill of health and that we understand the extent of her medical challenges before sending her to her forever home.
She is safely at my home now and is being loved and cared for like she is my own.
Lola has never had the chance to be a dog and enjoy life. But in her short week with me, the evolution of her healing process is unbelievable and so heart warming. 6 days ago she was terrified, shaking with her tail between her legs always. Now, she's cuddling my two other dogs, playing in the park, and is the sweetest and most affectionate dog. Once she knows she can trust you, she shows her soft and playful side. I can't wait to see her full personality come out, but it is rewarding and beautiful to watch pieces of her personality shine though, even through her devastating life. She is such a strong, inspirational being.
If anyone can find it in their hearts to help us with these medical costs and give Lola another chance at life I would be so appreciative. Any money raised that surpasses the price of Lola's procedures will be donated to Puggle & Friends Rescue for future Puggles in need.
Hi all, update as of 12/18/21
We’ve been told that Lola’s mammory chain removal will be approx $3000 minimum. Her mass biopsy will be $850
Her dental will be at least $1500 and next steps for her UTI are TBD. Because of this I am raising our donation amount to $5,000 so we will have enough for all of her procedures ❤️ If anybody would like requested vet records from me for proof, please email me and I will provide.
Hi everyone, update as of 12/20/21
A second tumor has been found on the other side of Lola’s mammary chain. This would mean she would need BOTH mammary chains removed (not just the glands, the entire mammary chain) which would have to be done in two separate surgeries. While doing an X-ray to see if this has metastasized, we also found cancer in her right toe, and the vet originally suggested the potential of amputating the toe. (This is even more serious than the mammary glands). They also found two very large bladder stones in her bladder, which must be removed as soon as possible as they are causing her pain. They believe these issues are due to the fact that she was never spayed. In total, this would be 4 surgeries:
1st mammary chain, 2nd mammary chain, bladder stones and spay, dental and mass removal. As I’m sure you can all imagine, the idea of 4 back to back surgeries for our Lola bear is a terrifying thought, and very risky. After many long and emotional discussions with my team, we have decided it would be cruel and unfair to put Lola Bear though 3 - 4 different surgeries. She has already been robbed of a life as she suffered so much neglect, we don’t want to traumatize her further with all of these major surgeries. There is no guarantee that she would even survive these procedures, and the last thing we want is for her to spend her final days going in and out of painful, invasive surgeries instead of enjoying the time she has left. Currently, the ONLY thing causing her pain is the bladder stones, so we will be getting that surgery on January 5th. At the same time, she will get spayed and a dental. (So one surgery total). The bladder stone removal will allow her to live the rest of her days without pain and discomfort, and the spay will hopefully help the cancer from not spreading too quickly. It was a hard decision whether or not to go through with double mastectomy and toe/foot amputation, but we believe in our hearts that the best thing we can do for Lola is allow her to live out the rest of her days with no stress, love, warmth, kindness, play, walks and treats - instead of poked and prodded at at the hospital.
The money we have raised here will be paying for her Bladder stone removal surgery, spay, dental, medications, and anything else that Lola may need. If any funds raises surpass her medical needs, it will be donated to Puggles and Friends Rescue to help Puggles in need in the future.
*IF ANYONE WOULD LIKE TO SEE COPIES OF VET BILLS & PAYMENTS FOR PROOF, PLEASE EMAIL ME AND I WILL FORWARD THEM TO YOU! :)
Update on Lola as of 12/28/21!!
On Christmas Eve, we got the further results of Lola’s X-Ray. Like a Christmas miracle, the cancer has NOT spread at ALL!!!!! This was shocking, because bone cancer spreads very quickly in dogs. We had hoped for the best but prepared for the worst, and are overjoyed (and surprised, in the best way possible) to see there is no metastasis. The doctors believe that if we amputate the toe where the cancer currently is, then she will have a great chance at living longer than we expected! Also, she supposedly does not use this toe for stabilization, so she will have no problems walking after it heals! When it comes to the mammary chain removal, which was concerning (but of much less concern than the toe), we will NOT be touching these (as we do not believe it is best to put her through multiple surgeries - please read past updates for our reasoning).
Her updated and current treatment plan is: ONE surgery that will include: Toe amputation, Spay and bladder stone removal. It is undecided if this will also include a dental (a dental may be too long under anesthesia). This is scheduled for January 5th, 2022. Her preliminary bloodwork is today, 12/28 at Heart Of Brooklyn Vets. Her healing process will be about 2-3 weeks, and if all goes to plan, she will be ready to be adopted. Lola is a warrior. Her spirits are high, she cuddles and plays happily, loves food and has great energy. She is an inspiration to me and everyone around her. I don’t understand how anyone could be evil enough to abuse and neglect this sweet angel for so many years, and I never will. Lola has taught me so much, but most importantly showed me that no matter what hardships you face or horrors you endure in life, it’s never too late to start over. I will update you all after her surgery on January 5th. Thank you all for your love and continuous support.
*We are still accepting applications for Lola’s adoption. Lola is being fostered by me, and sponsored through Puggles & Friends Rescue. If you know of someone interested in adopting Lola, please reach out to me for adoption application.
Update on Lola as of 01/14/22
Lola’s surgery was a great success! On January 5th, she had her toe amputated, was spayed, and had two giant bladder stones removed. The vets did an amazing job, and she is recovering beautifully. We have a checkup on January 17th to get results from the surgeries. We are hoping and praying that they give us a clean bill of health (or at least a manageable health plan) so she can be adopted soon. <3 Thank you so much to everyone who donated, we couldn’t have done this without you. I am forever grateful for your support in giving this girl the second chance she deserved. Watching her bounce back from a triple surgery and continue to be the sweet, affectionate, curious little Puggle she is has been inspiring to say the least.
