Dear friends, my sister Leah Tsuma received the diagnosis of cervical cancer in advanced stages a few weeks ago.  A cancer diagnosis is devastating, and even more so when access to treatment is delayed due to unavailability of funds. Doctors have recommended immediate Radiation and Chemotherapy. Leah needs to start treatment right away because any delay diminishes her chances even further. The funds will go towards her treatment and support. Your gift will go a long way in getting Leah started on treatments.  Hopefully this allow her to get back on her feet doing what she does best and more time with her young son and family. Leah’s case has been complicated further by a blood clot in her leg, making it impossible for her to move much and care for her seven year old son Nolan.

Leah has a fierce spirit; she is a scientist for a great cause and has inspired many through her scientific innovation. Leah is in the process of using her knowledge in Biochemistry to work on a project that will generate energy from municipal solid waste. Prior to this cancer diagnosis, she was spearheading the project that has a huge environmental and economic potential and one that is set to benefit the inhabitants of Kibera, a marginalized community that receives over 1,000 tons of municipal solid waste daily from Nairobi County in Kenya.

As a single mother Leah often sacrifices precious time she could be spending with her own family for the sake of the marginalized and needy communities. She is often seen with her now 7-year-old son on the field working on the community project. The effects of Leah’s illness and admission is not only devastating to the family but also the community she has been working with.
