The life of a remarkable young man, Keyshawn Perkins, at the tender age of 19, has been forever altered due to a tragic motorcycle accident. His story is one of resilience, courage, and unwavering determination, but it is also a stark reminder that life can change in an instant.  


Keyshawn is an employee of the Portsmouth YMCA, where he enjoys supporting youth and the community through his role as a camp counselor. He is a young man with boundless dreams, who had his world turned upside down when he was hit by a car on Middle St. in Portsmouth on September 10th, 2023.    


Imagine, for a moment, being 19 years old, enjoying a sunny summer day, a mind filled with dreams of serving your country, building a life with your grade school soulmate, caring for animals, and making a positive impact in your local community. And, in just one blink of an eye all of those dreams have been threatened by a devastating life-shattering accident.  


Keyshawn does not have health insurance through his workplace and the injuries he sustained are extensive and severe. Keyshawn is currently in Boston hospital and faces a long and challenging road to recovery that will last at least 18 months and involve numerous surgeries. His injuries include five broken ribs, two punctured lungs, a shattered wrist, a blood clot in his chest, a broken back, and a broken spine.  


Perhaps most heartbreakingly, Keyshawn has been left permanently paralyzed from the waist down and will not be able to walk again.


We feel that Keyshawn's dreams should not be sacrificed on the altar of misfortune. We refuse to let this accident define the rest of his life and let his dreams slip through his fingers.  


But we need your help, compassion, and generosity to make this journey back to life, back to dreams, and back to independence possible. Keyshawn's pressing needs include not only overwhelming medical bills but also the necessity for a specially adapted living environment to accommodate his new reality.  


We call upon you, our community, our friends, and our extended family, to rally together and support Keyshawn's fight for a second chance at life. Your donations will go directly towards covering Keyshawn's medical bills, rehabilitation expenses, and the modification of his living space to make it wheelchair accessible. Your support will also provide him with the emotional and financial stability he needs during this difficult time.

His free-spirited, caring, and gentle nature has touched the lives of many, including the animals and people he loves.
