Karma has been the greatest gift to us for the last 10 years. I rescued her (along with my mom) when she was 3 years old but really she rescued us all. If you met Karma, you got her loving and eccentric personality. As my mom always says she is “pure love”. I don’t know if I would’ve had the courage to come out to California on my own. Having her by my side, made me feel so comforted always. At the yoga studios she always made the students feel loved with lots of belly rubs and kisses.
Not only has she been the best sidekick a girl could ask for, she’s been like a mother figure to Harry, always looking over him since the day he was born. She was in the hospital, she has been there for us through everything. We are so grateful for this time we’ve had with her.
I know I would do anything for her so when she got sick, it broke my heart, but I had to be strong and lead the way with what I thought was best. She was diagnosed about a month ago with a very serious condition called pulmonary hypertension, secondary to lung disease. We have the opportunity to make her comfortable and prolong her life with treatment and medication, potentially, but at the point in which we can’t help her and she’s suffering, we are prepared to make that tough decision as her condition is progressive and terminal.
Unfortunately the care she needs is very expensive, x-rays, cardiologist, echocardiograms, and, now she’s under oxygen to help her recently elevated respiratory rate. She’s a fighter and has had some signs of improvement in the last 12 hours, so we are hopeful. They are planning to wean her off of oxygen today and see how she does. Anything that could help us help her right now would be so incredibly appreciated. Thank you.
