As many of you already know my mother Janet @Turtlecat9 on Twitter passed away unexpectedly at only 63 years old. I've been putting off asking for any help hoping that it could be avoided. I got news last weekend that has pushed me to just reach out and ask for whatever help people are able to give. My landlord informed me he decided to sell the building I've been living in. Chances are I will have to leave sometime in the next couple months. That news has forced me to rethink my plans as I try to move forward with the next chapter of my life and admit to myself that it won't be possible without some financial help.
My mom passed away with no Will or life insurance. Luckily Uncle was able to cover the final expenses. I was left with just some savings I'd put away out of the stimulus checks. Luckily she had an optional life insurance policy on her car loan so that was able to be payed off and transferred to me. The first month after she passed away was mostly a blur for me. I knew she was unhealthy but was expecting her to be around a lot longer. Thought I had more time to work on getting my own life back on track. Then in July had to accept the fact that I couldn't keep all of our 4 cats and that was not easy for me even though it was the right thing to do in my situation.
We had been living together for years and combined we made a pretty good team. It wasn't safe for her to be on her own. She was having a lot of falls where she needed my assistance to get up. She had a hard enough time getting around the apartment let alone going anywhere.
I have been dealing with my own medical problems including a back injury and pretty extreme social anxiety among others. I've spent the past couple months tying up loose ends, downsizing, and selling household items I don't need. My plan was to get all of that out of the way and start looking for a job I'm physicaly able to perform to support myself and hopefully even stay here. With the building being sold chances are staying here won't be an option anymore. The rent is already probably too much for me to stay above water as is. Its too late to worry about my back injury right now. It will have to wait until I find some stability. With no recent work history, my physical limitation, and all of my experience in jobs I can't return to it won't be easy but I am extremely motivated and willing to consider just about any job I can perform.
Looking back there are a lot of things I wish I had done differently but hindsight is always 20/20. Right now all I can do is try to make a fresh start. I have no family that I am close with and only have a couple friends left that I'm still in touch with. Knowing I have support through all the amazing friends my mom made over the years through twitter has been a light in the darkness and an extremely humbling experience.
I refuse to ask for help more than once so my goal is a rough estimate of 6 months worth of rent, bills, and living expenses. I will also now have moving expenses and my car is due for its yearly inspection by the end of October. I use a prepaid Tracfone and that also is going to need time added to it. Wish I could provide more details but with moving on the horizon I have a lot of unknowns right now.
So I'm asking for roughly 6 months of expenses based on what they are right now. Keeping in my mind that I have a car inspection and some repairs coming up and will also have moving expenses.
Current Rent $750/month
Electric $120-140/month
Internet $75/month
Car Insurance $120/month
Cat supplies and other necessities $150/month
Pogo and I really appreciate the help and we thank each and every one of you whether you donated, retweeted, purchased some of my mom's remaining crafts or just took the time to check in on me.
