My close friend Jarred is currently in Jakarta after making a mistake that has turned his whole life upside down. Many of you are already aware of the situation — it’s been heartbreaking to see it all unfold.
What matters most now is that Jarred desperately needs help to fight for his freedom.
Indonesia has some of the strictest laws in the world, and what should have been a far lighter consequence has instead become a devastating legal battle. He is now facing the possibility of losing the best years of his life, with a sentence that could see him locked away for the next 20 years. On top of this, he is dealing with enormous legal costs just to have a fair chance at reducing his sentence.
Jarred also lives with Crohn’s disease, a painful and exhausting condition that impacts his daily life. It’s vital that he has the best health he can while he is going through this process. Part of the reason we are raising money is to ensure that he can live as well as possible while he is away, maintaining the strength he needs to get through this and to fight for a second chance.
Jarred has always been one of the most generous and selfless people you could meet. He is the guy who would spend freely, buy the drinks, entertain everyone, and open his wallet first without hesitation. Many people were more than happy to be around him then — but now that he is in trouble, We need to come together to be there for him when he needs us the most!
This fundraiser is about giving back to someone who has given so much to others. The money raised will go toward:
Securing proper legal representation to reduce his sentence
Covering the ongoing legal and court fees
Supporting his health and basic needs while he is away
*If you are aware and familiar with Indonesia like myself you will know exactly what he facing. You would be opening your wallet, even just $5 helps!
If you have ever stepped foot inside those grim walls , you would have seen
the Indonesian "lock up" system is no joke.
Sharing a room... (if that's what you want to call it) with up to 60 people arm to arm, the danger and disease has been known to finish people before the sentence does. I devastatingly know this for a fact and this is one of the reasons I cannot stand by and watch my friend rot in there.
- this money will help with giving him a chance for freedom. without this money, he cannot continue to fight the legal costs.
Jarred made a mistake. But I don’t believe that mistake should cost him his entire future. If you’ve ever benefited from his generosity, laughed with him, or shared in the good times he created, now is the moment to stand up for him when he needs it most.
If you can donate, no matter the amount, it will make a real difference. And if you can’t, please share this page so his story can reach more people.
From the bottom of my heart, thank you for standing with J in this dark and painful time.
