On behalf of all the sick, injured, and hungry young kittens and cats of Milos, this fundraiser started by Janice Lee and Britt Sanders has been created to raise awareness and for funds to go to healthcare and spay/neutering services. When Janice and Britt visited the beautiful island of Milos, though known for its breathtaking views and beaches, we were devastated and heartbroken to see the countless amount of sick, injured, and hungry kittens who were roaming the island. We saw many with only one eye, blind in both eyes from infections, injuries on the face/body, and some who can barely make a sound from weakness. All skinny, frail, and most likely in pain.
During the summer, these cats born during kitten season in the spring rely on tourists and locals to feed, however being outdoor cats and inconsistent feedings depending on the season, this leads to circulating illnesses that animals can come across when living outside. Not to mention the injuries that can occur. Once winter approaches, many of them die from starvation, illness and/or injuries. This is a norm that the locals have accepted who are overwhelmed with the increasing population and are doing as much as they can. The cats that do survive procreate thus starting a vicious cycle of multiplying newborn kittens who barely make it to adulthood.
We find that it's more accessible for locals to provide food, however it is pointless to feed these young, skinny, cats if they continue to have a suffering life. We were told that there are local volunteers who can help trap the kitties on the island to bring in for the fixing. And your donations will help go to the only vet on the island, Dr. Elisabeth.
Your contribution will help end the overpopulation of these cats who once born, have an insufferable life of scavenging for food and barely make it a year. Based on costs for female spays and male neuters, we are starting this goal at a higher amount to make an impact.
Any amount will help! And your contribution will go towards For the Cats of Milos to help end the overpopulation of stray cats on the island and assist the locals in taking care of them.
Thank you!
