As a parent, it is the call you hope you never get. My 17 year old son was being rushed into emergency brain surgery after being pierced by a nail gun ricochet. I did not know if I would ever see him again. Luckily, the surgery went well and he survived. He was in a coma for a few days and woke up paralyzed on the left side.
It was incredible to see the progress each day as he began to respond to commands with a squeeze of the hand, then a slight movement of a toe, and then beginning to speak. Within a few more days he was able to lift his leg slightly and by the 8th day he could stand, then take a step, and by the next week he was walking.
It is now 4 months later and he just had a skull replacement. His left hand continues to be weak, with limited dexterity in the fingers. Doctors say it will take time for the brain to rewire and more of that should come back because he is young.
One day, while researching therapies to help in his recovery, I found QEEG Neurofeedback. I had read about this many years ago and was excited to know the technology was now available where we live.
By mapping the brain to see where neuro transmitters are over or under compensating, the technology helps get those areas to regulate and rejuvenate in a more normal and efficient way, by training the brain to make those connections.
This therapy would help my son in so many ways. Unfortunately, it is not covered by insurance The cost is $3000 for the initial mapping and the recommended 20 sessions. My hope is that through many small donations, we can raise the money for him to get this therapy. Any amount helps. We want to see him have the best possible life. Please feel free to share this with others that know us. Thank you for all of your prayers and support through this time.

Head Trauma
NF is recognized as one of the only treatments for traumatic brain injury. Each type of injury, from minor to severe has detrimental effects to the individual, oftentimes subtle and unrealized to the individual. These symptoms can include a lack of motivation, deficits in memory, speech and articulation, mood (depression and anxiety), sleep disturbances, a quick temper, tendencies towards anger and aggression. With strokes and head trauma, brown outs in electrical firings occur in certain areas of the brain; causing neurotransmitters, nutrients, and electrical stimulation to be pulled away from certain areas, causing other areas of the brain to over-compensate. Neurofeedback works to change the direction of activity, increasing stimulation in these affected areas. Typically recovery is profound and progress occurs rather quickly with head trauma patients.
