Hi, I’m Lexi, and I’m fundraising for my cat and my best friend, Cheddar.

On Sunday morning, I woke up to puddles of blood on my bed and found Cheddar with blood around his mouth. I rushed him to the emergency vet, where we learned he was suffering from severe anemia, but the cause of the bleeding could not immediately be identified.

After extensive bloodwork, imaging, and monitoring, it was found that his red blood cell count dropped so low that he was at risk of going into shock. He needed an urgent blood transfusion to stabilize him. Once he was strong enough, the team fully anesthetized him to examine his mouth, where they discovered and removed an ulcerated mass. That mass has now been sent out for biopsy.

Cheddar is stable after the transfusion and surgery, but we’re not out of the woods. If he doesn’t begin eating on his own, or if the surgical site reopens, he may need to be placed on a feeding tube. We are anxiously waiting for the biopsy results and preparing for the possibility of further treatment.

In just 36 hours of emergency care, Cheddar’s medical bills have already exceeded $5,500; and, he still needs follow-up visits to monitor his blood levels throughout the week.

I don’t often ask for help, but I am graciously asking for support in raising $7,500 to help cover his current and expected immediate emergency vet bills.

Cheddar is more than a pet, he’s family. My family rescued him off the streets in 2019 when we found him with a large open wound on his side. In 2021, Cheddar officially became my cat, and together we moved away from all family while I attended college. Since then, Cheddar has been with me through every move, every laugh, every tear, every holiday, and every major life event.

He is my best friend, my certified emotional support animal, and truly my only family here in California. I want to do everything possible to make sure he is happy, healthy, and able to enjoy a long, comfortable life. I hate asking for help, but I want to exhaust every option to give Cheddar the best chance.

Any donation, big or small, will go directly toward his lifesaving care and means more than I can express. And if donations are not possible at this time, sharing to anyone you know would still be greatly helpful.
