Help Give Canaan a Fighting Chance

Our son Canaan is 4 years old. He is severely autistic, suffers from apraxia, has mobility challenges that require orthopedic shoes and leg braces, and also struggles with a wandering eye that will soon require glasses and continued treatment.

Despite all of this, Canaan has made incredible progress.

When he first began therapy at just 1 year old, he was completely nonverbal and isolated from the world around him. Today, after years of hard work, prayers, and support from amazing doctors and therapists, he can sing some of his favorite songs, speak in broken English, and is even beginning to make friends at our local park. For the first time, we are seeing him learn how to play with other children and enjoy pretend play.

Those moments mean everything to us.

But getting him to this point has come with an overwhelming financial cost.

Canaan currently attends therapy 6 days a week for roughly 25 hours each week. His schedule includes:

• Behavioral Therapy
• Occupational Therapy
• Physical Therapy
• Speech Therapy

Even after insurance, we are paying a large amount every month out of pocket. Recently, our insurance company raised our deductible to a level we realistically may never reach, making the burden even heavier.

On top of therapy costs, we are also facing additional medical expenses including:

• Orthopedic shoes as he grows
• Leg braces
• Glasses and vision treatment
• Potential future surgeries if therapy and braces cannot fully correct his toe walking

Right now, all of Canaan’s doctors strongly recommend maintaining this intensive therapy schedule while he is still young. They believe these early years are critical to helping him develop communication, mobility, social interaction, and independence before starting Transitional Kindergarten (T-K) this August.

Our greatest fear is losing momentum.

We cannot risk slowing down his therapies and watching him regress back into isolation after fighting so hard for every bit of progress he has made over the last three years.

Our goal is to raise enough money to help cover the next three years of therapy and medical support as he prepares for school and continues learning how to navigate the world around him.

Estimated costs include, expansion of therapy beyond 25 hours a week, glasses, leg braces and any other medical devices he might need along the way.

My wife and I both work full time. I work in construction, and my wife provides speech therapy services for rural schools in California. We also have a younger daughter who has spent much of her childhood traveling to appointments and adjusting to the strain that comes with such an intense medical schedule. We do everything we can to make sure she still gets to experience her own childhood and never feels overlooked.

Through all of this, our faith has carried us. Our community has prayed for us, encouraged us, and helped us along the way. We are deeply grateful for every person who has supported Canaan’s journey so far.

If you are able to donate, share, or pray for our family, we cannot thank you enough.

Every therapy session helps give Canaan a better chance at communication, friendship, independence, and confidence as he enters school and continues growing.

We simply want our son to have every opportunity possible to succeed, belong, and experience the joys of childhood alongside other kids his age.

Thank you for believing in Canaan.
