My name is Audrey. I am raising funds to help care for my adorable little nephew, Chance Easter. He was born Sept 2022 with a rare and terminal condition called Miller Dieker Syndrome, also known as Lissencephaly. Babies with this condition have severely underdeveloped brains that cause many related health problems. This medical condition is so severe that most babies born with it die before ages 2-4. Therefore, their care focuses on keeping the child safe and trying to lessen their symptoms so they can be as comfortable and happy as possible.
There were immediate safety concerns when Chance Easter was born, so he was in the NICU for the first month of his life. Due to the sterile environment, the only visitors Chance was allowed to have were his parents and one of his grandmothers. During this time, he could not swallow and was fed through a feeding tube while he practiced being able to drink milk. His parents continued to practice this with him after he was discharged. However, a follow-up medical test showed that Chance continued to choke every time he attempted to swallow anything. Therefore, he is no longer able to eat or drink and relies exclusively on a permanent feeding tube.
During his second month of life, baby Chance developed epilepsy with lengthy grand mal seizures. Consequently, he had to stay a couple of days in the hospital again as they found some medication to help control the seizures. Chance has now returned home, but his medical conditions cause significant safety concerns, and he needs constant supervision. Due to this, his mother is no longer able to return to work.
Sweet baby Chance will need extensive medical treatment for the rest of his life. Therefore, I have created this Go Fund Me account to assist with Chance's rapidly rising medical expenses. Currently, his parents still owe about $3,200 for past medical treatments and tests. Starting this coming January, they will quickly be required to pay their $5,000 max out of pocket for their medical insurance. Furthermore, Chance's parents need additional support to continue their daily care for him. Specifically, health care specialized respite care is vital to help prevent emotional and physical burnout. It would be needed in an emergency when they desperately need a break, or assistance, but no one else is available.
Any help is greatly appreciated. Thank you.
