If you know Gissell, you know she is pure sunshine. She is the bright light in every room, the steady friend, the encourager, the one who makes everyone feel seen and loved. She has always been the person who shows up for others with warmth and strength. Right now we need help showing up for her, as she has done for so many of us.
Less than two months ago, Gissell was diagnosed suddenly with end stage liver failure due to an autoimmune disorder. The waiting, the fear, the unknown, it was overwhelming. We went through one offer, which fell through, then a second, which also fell through, finally 3rd times the charm, a liver was ready and it was hers. Her surgeon told us she received a “beautiful liver". Due to an incredibly selfless donor, Gissell was given the gift of life. There are no words big enough for that kind of gratitude.
However, the transplant is just the beginning. Recovery is long and delicate. She now faces lifelong anti-rejection medications, constant monitoring, and countless appointments to protect this second chance.
The hard part is that life doesn’t pause. Medical expenses, mortgages, utilities, car payments, and everyday bills continue while she is unable to work. If you're able to, Gissell needs support right now, and she deserves the space to heal without the added weight of financial stress.
