My sister and I have lost our home and all our belongings due to a devastating fire. Thankfully we made it out safe, but our two kittens did not survive. The fire report identified a sudden spark from a faulty power strip as the probable cause. The house has been closed off as unlivable due to the extensive fire damage and developing mold and water damage. Our insurance is currently not cooperating and threatening to not cover ANYTHING! 

My sister and I have been living here on our own, since our parents are currently in Mexico due to health issues. Our goal has been to work and continue pursuing our education. I am currently a high school senior, honors student and in the college dual enrollment program. My sister has her masters from Georgetown University and was in pursuit of her doctorate to help children with special needs. Loosing our home has been catastrophic for us, since we relied on having a stable place to live to continue working and pursuing our studies. All our families’ hard work and sacrifice was in that home.

However, we know that God is greater than any material loss and he never abandons us. We have been blessed to be surrounded by a community of friends who have become our family. While we know our recovery will take up to a year, at the moment we do need monetary help to cover legal fees to continue fighting our insurance claim. We need to find a new place to live long term, costs for school, food, utilities, and getting the basics to get back on our feet.
