Help Gio Leave an Abusive Household

"I’m a young Latina Transwoman living in Florida. I’m stuck in an abusive household in which my father has been indoctrinated by alt-right rhetoric and has threatened to ruin my life and leave me in homelessness unless I live as a Cisgendered man. I was on DIY HRT but got removed out of my treatment when discovered and for close to a year have been living with extreme restrictions in my lifestyle. I’m seeking to be able to leave this household and move somewhere safer by late September. Saving up is hard as I can’t find a stable job as a trans presenting person in Florida so I need funding to be able to escape my father and be able to live normally."

My name is Robin Miller, I'm creating this GoFundMe in order to support my close friend Gio Genua with moving away from her home into a more supportive living situation. Currently, Gio lives in Florida and is attempting to start socially and medically transitioning. Florida is an incredibly hostile environment for Transgender people currently under the mayoral ruling of governor Ron DeSantis, so much so that a travel advisory warning has been issued by Equality Action Florida inc. alongside the Human Rights Campaign saying that it is an incredibly hostile and volatile for Transgender people to reside in.

The transphobic sentiment governor DeSantis has sewn into the population of Florida creates hostility for transgender people in all of their social circles. For Gio, it has heavily affected her family life that has made it so that she is no longer able to safely live there. She was not able to start transitioning medically after her parents denied her to access to resources necessary to obtain it, and was forced to attempt DIY Hormone Replacement Therapy instead, which was also taken away once discovered.

Gio has also struggled with facing hiring discrimination on the basis of being Transgender which has heavily impacted her ability to save to leave the state. This is what I hope to help support with this GoFundMe; it's crucial that Gio has the resources necessary in order to leave a situation that is stifling and detrimental to her ability to live happily. The funds donated to this GoFundMe will exclusively be spent to cover the costs of her moving as well as helping her settle into a new place in order to escape her abusive situation.
