Ginger worked as a cook at the Chewelah School District until her diagnosis of late stage COPD in August 2020. This was her dream job and she loved it. Ginger is known for her work ethic, kindness, and her wonderful smile. She is always willing to lend a helping hand to those who need it the most, but, now, Ginger needs your help.
Late stage COPD (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease) means final stage. Ginger is on oxygen 24 hours a day and still has difficulty breathing. She described it as trying to breathe underwater while being strangled. There is no cure and her only hope of survival is a lung transplant. All her energy is spent just trying to breathe every single day. She struggles for every precious breathe. She is completing tests and procedures with the University of Washington Hospital in Seattle to qualify for a lung transplant.
Ginger has completed several different kinds of breathing tests performed by respiratory therapists, pulmonologists, and her primary physician. She has undergone blood tests, x-rays, vaccines, immunizations, several different disease screenings, and has many more to go. Ginger has been examined by specialists with the University of Washington Medical Center and undergone testing at that medical center. She is doing everything in her power to complete all the requirement's as soon as possible because that puts her one step closer to receiving a lung transplant.
There will be expenses not covered by insurance regarding Ginger's medical expenses before and after the transplant. She will be making many trips from Chewelah to Seattle before and after the transplant, some of which will require staying in Seattle. Ginger is required to stay in Seattle 2-4 months after the transplant and the lodging alone will cost $3,000 per month. She will have at least one paid caretaker after the transplant. The University estimated that expenses not covered by insurance could reach or exceed $30,000.
All donations will go towards Ginger's medical expenses.
Ginger is extremely grateful for all of your kindness and support.
