Help Gina Recover Fully from Catastrophic Illness
Donation protected
I’ve been off your radar. You may have been wondering “What’s up with Gina?” Well, I didn’t die. Almost, though. Several times. I developed an undiagnosed syndrome that damaged my lungs, heart, liver, and brain function. It immobilized me completely. You know I’m a fighter. So, I’ve been fighting. Hard. I’m back up. And getting better. But I spent all my money getting here. So, I need your help—that’s your donation, my friends!—right away to get to full health. 100% of it is going to pay for a) specialist doctors I’ve identified who can help me break all the way through; 2) a small amount of medical debt; 3) basic, modest living expenses and; 4) a small health insurance premium. I have limited energy, and I’m focusing it on healing, so my friends Ellen and Laura are managing this GoFundMe. To donate now, you can just click to the right and be done, OR, you can read all the gory details, below, and donate right after that. I’m counting on you. Thanks a lot.
This fundraiser was created by a group of Gina Dorcely’s friends to help support Gina as she rebuilds her health and her life after three years of devastating illness. Gina is so grateful for the outpouring of love and support she has received from the small circle of friends who have been aware of her health crisis. We – Gina and her friends -- have come to realize that to truly and fully recover she needs to call on support from her larger community. We have organized this crowdfunder to raise funds to cover ongoing significant expenses to sustain her as she undergoes treatment and moves through it to full recovery. We envision her return to full-time work, a restored life, and vibrant health.
THE NEED
Gina’s financial need is now acute. She has been unable to work for more than three years; has exhausted her financial resources; has gone into medical debt; and cannot meet her regular living expenses. She has been unable to file for disability or otherwise access disability support or health insurance due to Florida’s arcane bureaucracy. Gina has to now cover her ongoing significant out-of-pocket medical expenses; her health insurance premium; pay off accumulated medical debt; and supply basic living expenses to support herself. Our goal is to raise $38,000 to help her meet these goals and rise to full health.
HEROINE’S JOURNEY
After a bout of pneumonia in 2018, Gina suffered a series of illnesses and infections which damaged her lungs, heart and liver. Two near-fatal incidents brought her to the emergency room. Her vigilance and commitment to her health, and to organize her own care, have moved her from these crises onto a path of recovery. Along the way, she consulted 8 doctors, including specialists, and received various diagnoses for chronic lung issues (asthma and COPD, among them) and specific infections, as well as recommendations for many tests. To date, this has not resulted in an overall diagnosis addressing the full scope of her health issues.
Through her own vigilance and care, and on her own dime, she improved her health enough to allow her to move to Boston early this year to live with friends who were able to further support her healing. She has applied her masterful medical research skills, developed working in a medical research lab at Stanford, to identify practitioners who specialize in her issues. She is poised to pursue effective medical treatment as soon as she has the resources to pay for it.
Gina is a bright light and change agent who has relished the opportunity to support and serve her friends and family as we have faced our own challenges. She has contributed so much of the best of herself -- love, commitment, intelligence, and energy -- to improve the life of the many communities of which she is a part and the lives of so many of us. We want to give her some of that loving energy back in her hour of need.
Please help us meet our goal. It will free Gina to continue to focus on her healing until she can return to the full-time work she loves. This will go a long way towards helping her achieve the best possible health and well-being after this harrowing period. If you prefer, you can send your donation directly to Gina via Zelle or paypal to "dorcely" at gmail .
Thank you again for your love and care.
Warmly,
Ellen Krause-Grosman and Laura Helper
