Help Gina Fiore Miller with Medical Travel Expense

Hello, my name is Chris Doody and I am fundraising for a very dear longtime friend, Gina Fiore Miller. Gina was diagnosed with Leukemia in November, 2008 and it has been an uphill battle ever since.

for the past 12-1/2 years, she has been on several different types of chemotherapy but none have kept her in remission. Gina was on one certain chemo for 9 years and during that time she had more than 12 hospital stays and countless trips to the ER and Immediate Care. The chemo was destroying her by causing double pleural effusions in her lungs, pleural edema, angio edema, pneumonia and double pneumonia once or twice a year, extreme bone pain and fatigue, just to name a few.

When nothing else could be done by her doctors in Chicago, she sought out clinical trials and research hospitals. In November, 2019 Gina found a hospital in Houston, Texas and from her research she felt this could be the place to save her. Since changing hospitals, she has been on the 4th and 5th line chemotherapy for Leukemia. Her body became resistant to the chemo and the side effects were proving to be unbearable. None of the chemos got her into remission. Over that year and half since going to Houston, she has had to make 12 different trips to the hospital for different treatments and tests. In March of this year, her doctor told her of a clinical trial that she might qualify for. After many tests, Gina was told on June 24, 2021 that she finally qualified for the clinical trial!

Gina will need to go to Houston weekly and bi-monthly for the first 3 months for monitoring then monthly for 3-5 days for testing for the next year and a half.

It’s been a very long road for Gina and the cost of having cancer has put a huge burden on her family. That’s why I am setting this up for her, so she can get the treatment she needs and be able to afford all of the trips to Houston that she needs. The money will strictly be used for plane tickets from Chicago to Houston, hotel rooms and Uber or Lyft rides from the airport to the hospital. Any amount will help and will be very appreciated by Gina and her family. Thank you so much for your help during this very scary but important time for Gina.
