Hello and thanks for taking the time to read this. My wife, Gina, was recently injured as a result of an accidental gunshot. The bullet has fractured C1, C2, and C3 and cannot be removed. Her injury was a result of an accidental discharge of a small caliber handgun she believed to be empty while attempting to clean it. The gun had an empty clip except for one round in the chamber she wasn’t aware of and didn’t think to check. She’s just lucky to be alive and able to still walk and use her arms and hands.
This has left her unable to work, and since the police and doctors assumed it was a self-inflicted suicide attempt, the Aflac insurance she had will not pay her claim. She had no recollection of what had even happened while in the hospital but has since remembered wanting to clean the gun that had belonged to her mother, who passed years ago. It was a complete accident; however, convincing the insurance of that has proven impossible. The bullet can’t be removed because of where it’s located in the back of the skull, too close to the spinal cord.
We are over a month into her recovery, and she will not be able to return to work anytime soon, if at all. The medical bills have started coming in. We own a home we worked so hard to have and now could lose without help. I had to perform CPR on her until help arrived, and thankfully she’s alive. Please find it in your heart to help Gina and I get through this horrible event without losing everything we worked so hard for the past 30 years. Gina is a kind, funny, and spirited individual who has survived horrible childhood abuse at the hands of her mother and has overcome so much to become the excellent human being she is.
