HI, I'm Shane, and I'm fundraising for my boyfriend Theo (middle) and his family. His mom Gillian (to his left) is a single mom with fibromyalgia, raising her two LGBT children, who are also disabled. They moved to their current rental unit in 2019, after Gillian left her emotionally and verbally abusive husband in 2017. The move was extremely hard for all of them, and since then they’ve been trying to get back on their feet.
However, they’ve been set back by a wide variety of complications - Gillian’s CRA account was hacked last summer in the security breach, and the hackers were able to reroute all the CERB payments to her account into their own accounts. She hasn't been able to receive anything because her account was frozen. She then applied for employment insurance in May (after she proved her identity to the government and her account was unfrozen) because she was unable to work due to the pandemic. However, the EI department informed her she could have applied before her account got unfrozen so her request was denied. She has only been able to collect 3 weeks of EI. Theo has been collecting EI as he looks for a new job, but because of their financial situation, he’s sent his mum $12,800 to date to cover their day to day expenses, bills, and rent.
On top of this, their landlord has been threatening to kick them out. The landlord has attempted to evict them in the past and their living situation is obviously not very stable because of all this. The purpose of this fundraiser is to raise money to help them be able to stay afloat and live a more stable life. They would be using this money to help them afford things like food, monthly rent, gas, electricity and water bills, and internet access. They would like to have enough money to afford rent by August, as well as any other necessities they may have until then. His family is like my family, and we care about each other like families do. If we can raise enough money to help them afford to live for the next couple of months, it'd mean the world to us. Literally anything helps. All donations, no matter how big or small, are greatly appreciated <33.
