Gilda Ruiz Larez, a loving mother and wise soul, is facing one of the most difficult health battles of her life. A recent MRI revealed a 6.8 cm tumor in the head of her pancreas, which is blocking her bile ducts and compromising a vital anatomical structure for the digestive system. While there is no evidence of metastasis yet, the tumor is serious and requires urgent testing and treatment to determine whether it is benign or malignant.

She needs to travel from Puerto Ordaz to Caracas, Venezuela, where she has been scheduled to receive further care—including a P.C.R.E. procedure, possible stent placement, hospitalization, and follow-up treatments.

We’ve received formal medical estimates from two trusted institutions—Urológico San Román and Dr. Calixto E. Cifuentes B.—which already total over $10,000 USD, not including travel, lodging, food, or recovery expenses.

Gilda has been an incredible mother to her two sons, including my husband, who speaks of her with deep admiration. One story he always carries with him is from when he was young: he had promised to help with something at home to be able to go to a party that night but didn’t follow through. That night, when he was ready to go to the party, his mom told him no. He cried—and she cried with him—but stood firm. She explained that his word matters, both to himself and to others. That moment, he says, taught him discipline wrapped in love—one of many lessons that shaped the man he is today.

Gilda is not only a guiding force in our family, but also a grandmother who still hasn’t had the chance to meet her grandson in person. Our greatest hope is to give her the chance to heal and one day hold him in her arms.

Gilda ha sido una madre ejemplar para sus dos hijos, incluyendo a mi esposo, quien la describe con profunda admiración. Una anécdota que siempre recuerda es de cuando era joven: él había prometido ayudar en casa para poder ir a una fiesta y no cumplió. Esa noche, el estaba listo para ir a la fiesta, pero su mamá le dijo que no. Él lloró… y ella también lloró con él. Pero se mantuvo firme. Le explicó que su palabra importa, tanto para él como para los demás. Ese momento le enseñó una lección de disciplina llena de amor—una de muchas que lo formaron como persona.
