Help Gilberto Aguirre-Ramirez and Family
Donation protected
Written by Rick Reeves 1-20-2021: We talked to Gilberto's wife today and took her some money that some folks wanted her to have.
On November 20 Gilberto developed a headache, so he went to see a doctor where he was tested for Covid-19. The test was negative, so he returned home. His condition worsened, and his fingernails turned purple so his wife took him to UVA where he was admitted and diagnosed with Covid. His condition deteriorated rapidly and soon he was on a ventilator. It was less than a week from normal to ventilator.
He remained on the ventilator for well over a month. His wife was able to visit him yesterday (through the glass) and was shocked at his frailty. He is able to speak but is unable to swallow, so he is undergoing rehab to re-learn. After that he will start learning to walk again. After lying in bed for 8+ weeks his muscles have atrophied to a fraction of what they were.
So, he has been in the hospital for over two months and has at least another month there. Then he will transition through a nursing/rehab unit for at least another month. He has a long road ahead.
He has two children: a 10 yr old enrolled at North River Elementary and an 11 yr old at Beverly Manor. The household bills have continued to roll in, and his wife has taken care of some smaller ones through savings and the generosity of friends. So far she has seen the bill for only 3 days of his hospital stay. Family and friends have helped with food, but rent and utility bills are past due.
If you would like to make a contribution you may send a check to:
Mossy Creek Presbyterian Church
372 Kyles Mill Rd
Mount Solon, VA 22843.
Put "Gilberto Aguirre-Ramirez" on the memo line of the check. 100% of any money donated will be given to the family.
We plan to set up a GoFundMe account for the family for those who prefer the convenience of that method. I'll post the link when it is available.
If you prefer to send a donation to the family directly please PM me for contact information.
Thank you! Your words of support, prayers and outpouring of compassion are heartwarming!!
