Help Gigi & her baby recovery after being struck by a car

Donation protected
Hi, my name is Gigi .

On October 21st 2025, my 7 week old baby and I were struck by a car while walking on the footpath in Blarney, on the road to Pauds Cross. The impact was so severe that the accident was reported in local and national newspapers, highlighting the seriousness of what happened to us. What should have been a peaceful postpartum walk became a traumatic and life‑altering event.
Because of the severity of the impact, my baby and I were separated for 9 days — the first time I had ever been away from him. Those days were filled with fear, uncertainty, and overwhelming pain, both physical and emotional.

My baby’s initial scans showed a “minor brain damage”, raising concerns about possible brain bleeding. Thankfully it resolved without the need for neurosurgical intervention, but the early diagnosis was terrifying. For weeks, we lived with the fear that his development might be affected, watching him closely and praying for every sign of normal progress.
The emotional toll of seeing my newborn in a hospital bed, unable to hold him, comfort him, or even be beside him, is something I will carry forever.

* My Injuries & Medical Journey
I sustained right tibia and fibula shaft fractures, injuries that required major surgical intervention. I underwent internal fixation to stabilise the fractures. Since then, recovery has been long, painful, and physically demanding:

  • Months of non‑weight‑bearing
  • Ongoing intense physiotherapy
  • Persistent daily pain and limited mobility
  • Unable to breastfeed after the operation due to the severity of the surgery and medication
  • Restricted to only light painkillers after discharge so I wouldn’t lose my milk supply and could continue breastfeeding my baby
  • Difficulty caring for my baby without assistance
  • Emotional trauma from the accident and the forced separation

This accident has affected every part of my life : my ability to work, to move freely, and to care for my child safely and independently.

* Why I’m Asking for Support:

To heal properly and regain independence, I need consistent care and therapy until at least the end of June:

Care & Treatment Needed
  • Home care support — €30/hour, 3 hours/day, Monday–Friday
  • Therapy — €90 every 2 weeks
  • Physiotherapy — approx. €70–€75 every 2 weeks
  • Osteopath sessions — €80 every 2 weeks
  • Orthopaedic consultations —typically €150–€250 each
  • Medical Rental bed for (47Days): 737€

In addition to ongoing therapy and rehabilitation, I also had to rent essential medical equipment to safely recover at home. Because I was non‑weight‑bearing for weeks after surgery, I required a medical profiling
bed for 47 days.
I also require a wheelchair to move safely and avoid further injury for long distances.

These treatments are essential for my recovery . As a first time mother trying to rebuild stability after a traumatic event, I am asking for help so I can continue healing without falling into financial hardship.

*How Your Contribution Helps

Your support will directly fund:
  • My physical rehabilitation for an estimated duration of 18 weeks.
  • My emotional and psychological recovery
  • Essential home care while I regain mobility
  • The ability to safely care for my baby
  • My long‑term goal of returning to work and rebuilding my career
