Hi everyone,

I’m asking for help for my dog, Gigi, who is currently fighting a rare and serious bone marrow disease that appeared suddenly and has completely changed our lives.

After extensive testing with specialists, she is suspected to have a condition called PIMA, a rare immune-mediated disease where the body attacks the bone marrow and prevents it from producing healthy blood cells.

What makes her case atypical is that it does not appear to be limited to just red blood cells. Her veterinarians believe her immune system may also be affecting her white blood cells, meaning multiple parts of her blood system are being impacted at the same time. This makes her condition more complex and harder to predict.

She became severely anemic and required an emergency blood transfusion just to stabilize her. Around the same time, she developed pneumonia following a bone marrow biopsy procedure, which added a serious respiratory complication on top of an already critical illness.

Thankfully, she is now back home with me, where I am caring for her around the clock on a strict medication schedule that includes immunosuppressive treatment. She is currently in a very delicate recovery period where she will need frequent blood testing and close monitoring to determine whether her bone marrow can begin functioning normally again.

Right now, there are still many unknowns. This disease is rare, unpredictable, and can vary greatly from case to case. It is possible she may need additional blood transfusions in the future depending on how her bloodwork responds over time.

This all happened very suddenly. There was no warning, and we were not financially prepared for the level of emergency care she has needed. Her treatment has already included emergency hospitalization, transfusion, diagnostics, internal medicine care and medications. The costs are continuing to grow as we try to stabilize her condition and understand her long-term prognosis.

She is a deeply loved part of my life, and she is fighting hard right now. I am doing everything I can to give her a real chance at recovery.
