Help Gideon Thrive After Heart Surgery

Hi, this is Gideon the Brave! He’s 4 years old and just survived his 4th open heart surgery. Gideon has had a very complicated medical history with many hurdles to overcome. But together with our family and his 4 sisters we’ve been able to overcome all that’s come our way. This most recent surgery was complicated by a blood infection and an infection in his chest cavity. He came home with a wound vac and a PICC line to continue IV antibiotics at home. What Gideon was born with is called Tetralogy of Fallot, pulmonary atresia and MAPCAS. His MAPCAS is what has made his body the most complicated and severe. Due to the severity of his prognosis there has only been 1 surgeon at 1 hospital in our country that has been willing to give Gideon a fighting chance and that’s Dr. Hanley at Stanford children’s hospital

. It’s not been an easy road but we’ve made it through and with everyone’s support it’s made the challenges a bit more manageable. With any money raised we plan to pursue intensive therapies to help Gideon succeed with growing, eating, and walking. It will also help cover expensive medical travel between our home in Middletown, UVA in Charlottesville and Stanford in California.
