Gianna is 18 years now and suffers from Seizure Disorder, including: Epileptic, Focal & Pseudoseizures coupled with Severe Anxiety & Depression. These are just a few of her current 46 diagnoses that have occurred as a result of a lemon-sized meningioma brain tumor that was discovered in her right frontal lobe when she was only 5.
Subsequent to Gianna's first craniotomy, she had a second surgery to remove residual tumor one year later, which was then followed by 42 treatments of proton beam radiation all by the young age of 6.
Despite being told she would come out of this virtually unscathed, Gianna, 13 years later, has been left severely disabled.
After 12 exhaustive years New Milford agreed to outplace Gianna into a school that was equipped to accommodate her medically, socially & emotionally, only to have the transport company cancel their contract approximately 6 months in because they were ill equipped to accommodate someone with Gianna's disability. They failed to follow Gianna's treating neurologists protocol during transport repeatedly AND were photographed with the aid that was supposed to be monitoring Gianna, sleeping onboard.
In addition, training videos were supposed to be provided by the district to the transport company, for Gianna's care, within specific time periods according to the IEP that weren't followed. The aides weren't in the transport everyday and when they were they weren't qualified for Gianna's level of care.
The transport company & district's lack of regard for doctors protocol has cost Gianna her education, her sense of safety, she has become more recluse, her seizures have lasted as long as 13 hours & she has become a shell of the vibrant, fun, happy little girl she once was.
We were told by Gianna's neurologist, after she had multiple PNES seizures, some PNES seizure sleep walking episodes, where she fell down a fIight of stairs, 2 times which resulted in ambulance visits to the ER, to try and have her admitted into the SSRD Pathway Program at CCMC for some pschyiatric evaluations to try and get her admitted into an Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP).
We did exactly that, the hospitalist in charge made the recommendation, Gianna was discharged from the SSRD Pathway and CCMC never followed through with the IOP including something as simple as sending over electronic medical records, returning phone calls, emails etc & this is a facility that has treated her for 13 years!
I've sent emails to the Town Mayor, Governor, Attorney General, Disability Rights, ALL of the CT News & Radio Stations, the Epilepsy Center, SSDI, Social Services, Social Workers at the Hospital she's been going to, I've been everywhere looking for assistance for Gianna and can't seem to get anywhere even though I'm told we have a case.
We have exhausted all the rescources
availble to us. Without attorney respresentation they make it impossible to get through the "Red Tape".
I'm desperate to help my daughter, I have nowhere left to turn but here with the hopes that we can raise enough money to hire an attorney to get Gianna the pschyatric services & continued medical care she is need of and The education she is entitled too.
Every donation received will go toward obtaining legal representation and will update everyone as the process unfolds, First, when an attorney is retained and so on....
