My name is Gian, I am raising funds to cover my relocation to the Bay Area, CA. I plan on attending UC Berkeley this Fall, working towards my masters degree in their Art Practice program. I received funding from the department to cover tuition, supplies, and health insurance—but I need extra monetary support to secure housing once I'm there.

I spent a majority of my savings moving from New York to California, and am currently staying in Los Angeles in my childhood home, without a source of income. After scoping out rental prices in the Oakland/SF area, I anticipate requiring around $1600-$1800 for the first month and deposit. I am asking for a bit above that range to account for GoFundMe Fee's, travel expenses, and potential shipping costs. My hope is to ensure stable housing by September 1 at the very latest (classes start 8/21).

I have spent the past 8 years working as an educator and freelance graphic designer, while making paintings privately. In this time I have also applied to artist residencies, other MFA programs, and fellowships to no avail. This opportunity presents a breakthrough in my artistic journey—and I hope my family, friends, and extended networks can help me accomplish this long held dream.
