Ghost is our beautiful 2 year-old Alaskan Malamute.
Until just eight weeks ago, he was a completely healthy, happy dog who loved his walks and adventures.
One morning while out on a walk, Ghost suddenly lost all feeling in his back legs. He was rushed straight to the vets and then referred to the Small Animal Teaching Hospital in Liverpool. After four days of hospitalisation, extensive tests, and scans, we were given heartbreaking news. Ghost had suffered a stroke in his spine across a large area, leaving him permanently paralysed in his back legs.
We brought Ghost home unsure of what the future would look like, but he has amazed us every single day since. Despite everything he’s been through, Ghost is happy, bright, and has adjusted incredibly well to his new life. He currently receives weekly laser therapy and physiotherapy, and his spirit remains as strong as ever.
Sadly, the vets have told us that it is highly unlikely Ghost will ever regain feeling in his back legs. He has also lost control of his bladder, meaning we must manually express it 2–3 times a day. While we do this with love, it is uncomfortable for Ghost and requires constant care and supervision 24/7.
We are now fundraising for a specialist operation that is only performed by one surgeon in the UK.
This life-changing procedure would allow Ghost’s bladder to be released at the press of a button, removing the need for manual expression and significantly improving his comfort, dignity, and quality of life. Ghost has shown such resilience and strength, and we are so incredibly proud of him. This operation would make day to day life easier for him and allow us to care for him in a way that’s kinder and more sustainable long-term.
Any donation, no matter how small, would mean the world to us and help give Ghost the comfort he deserves.
Thank you so much for taking the time to read his story and for supporting our brave boy.
