On November 20, around 10:30 p.m., my partner David and I were watching TV, ready to doze off, when we heard a loud bang from our carport behind our bedroom window. We saw flickering light through the drapes and rushed outside to find our 2022 Kia Soul fully engulfed in flames. Within minutes, the fire had spread across the carport to our neighbors' car. Firefighters arrived just in time to stop it from jumping to our apartment and the building next door.

We are extremely grateful that no one was hurt and that we still have a roof over our heads. We have been very fortunate to have kind friends and clients who have offered the use of a vehicle while our insurance company sorts out this mess. That could take awhile. (We did not have rental car coverage on our policy. Next time, we will!)

We were halfway through paying this car off. Now, we have to start all over again. As dog walkers, pet sitters and delivery drivers, a reliable vehicle is crucial to our livelihood. We are basically losing money every day, only utilizing the loaner car for absolute necessities.

We are looking for help to get into a new car as soon as possible but also to deal with expenses in the meantime. Your kind donations will go primarily toward increasing our down payment so we can negotiate lower monthly payments. We may also need to rent a car temporarily, plus our regular bills aren't going anywhere. If we exceed our goal, we would like to share with our neighbors whose car was also completely destroyed in this horrifying experience.
