Help Get The Detroit Bus Company Back On The Road
Donation protected
Hey I'm Andy. I started a small social benefit bus company called The Detroit Bus Company in 2011 to fill transportation gaps for kids in Detroit with low and no-cost bus services for kids in need. We get kids without transportation to field trips and athletics so they can reach those opportunities safely and quickly.
On Tuesday morning, two guys cut through our fence, broke into our bus yard, and stole our catalytic converters by cutting them off with saws. On a car, these "cats" are worth about $900-1,100, but on a bus, they're $2,500+
This injustice is heartbreaking. We were in the process of getting back on our feet after the COVID-19 pandemic when this hit us out of nowhere.
The real bummer here is that this break-in hits our free rides programs most. We provide our free rides out of our "extra" funds from our charters and tours. Spending money we didn't bring in means fewer free rides, which sucks!
We've been hit before - it's a big city, it happens. We always get back up somehow. But since we've started telling our story we've gotten a ton of support requests from our community.
So, by popular request, we've started a GoFundMe.
It's about $10,000 to fix our vehicles, another $5,000 to fix our fence and add more barbed wire. We've also gathered a ton of volunteers together to cut down old weeds and trees so there's nowhere to sneak in.
If we hit our goal we'll be back on the road and fighting for transit access again.
If we EXCEED our goal (no way is this gonna happen) we'll invest the money directly into better fences, better gates, more cameras, and hiring a part-time guard.
If this is interesting to you, we'd gladly accept your support and put it to good use.
If you're anywhere near struggling to make ends meet, PLEASE DO NOT DONATE TO THIS. We will be okay if we don't pull this fundraiser off. We're Detroiters, we get it done.
