Terrance is a 1.5-year-old, very handsome, German Shepherd mix. He’s safe now… but his story before this was really, really sad.
Terrance didn’t grow up like a normal dog. For the first year and 2 months of his life, he lived in a crate. Not sometimes… all the time. That was his whole world. A crate, pee pads, and being alone. No walks. No playing. No learning how to just be a dog or deal with people and other dogs. He didn’t get to explore, or build confidence, or feel safe. He just existed like that… until his family decided they didn’t have "time or space for him" and gave him up to the shelter. That was his life.
After all he endured, he is still so loving. He follows you around. He watches you constantly. He leans into you like he’s been waiting his whole life for someone to care. He is energetic and playful and seeks constant affection, however he can not settle when he can not see his "person". He is under socialized and suffers from abandonment issues.
He was on the list for euthanasia at the shelter. A foster pulled him on his last day because this is not how his story should have ended. He was given a place to feel safe and loved and feel what life was about to be like. The neglect had been so severe, initially he fell back on his haunches on long walks since his leg muscles had not been excercised. Within a week he had built up his endurance. The foster noticed Terrance's inability to settle and state of anxiety and reached out to LARPBO.org for assistance. LARPBO has been involved offering training services, handling guidance and support. LARPBO put the foster in contact with CANIS (canisdogtraining.com) and they offered to do further work with Terrance at reduced pricing. They felt he would most benefit from a 6 week immersive program, after which point this beautiful boy will be ready for his forever home. This intensive program also includes Lifetime Enrichment Classes for Terrance and his owners at Canis in Tarzana as well as two in home training sessions.
We want to give him the life he should’ve had from the start, and we’re struggling to make that happen. He’s already in week three and showing huge improvements, he is much more secure and confident. The links below include some of his training videos.
We’ve raised $3,920 of our goal of $6,000 to cover his program and needs. This training is what’s helping him learn everything he never got to learn—how to feel safe, how to be on his own, how to exist in the world without panic.
He didn’t deserve the life he had before. He deserves the love he seeks so desperately. Help us make sure this is not where people give up on him again..
