Help get Teddy Home and Vet and Rehab bills

This is Teddy, he's a 3-year-old German Shepard mix.  Yesterday he was listed to be euthanized at his shelter in California. He's been there since April after being brutally attacked by other dogs and then abandoned by his previous owner.  He had severe bite wounds on both shoulders and had to have surgery on both, followed by a very difficult recovery. Once he was placed on the adoption list, no one expressed any interest in him.  He's been sitting in his kennel alone and scared since. He has been severely traumatized by his experience and is now very fearful and afraid of his surroundings and people/dogs. He has refused to interact with any handlers or shelter staff and just sits in the corner shaking in fear.

We couldn't let him be killed and decided to adopt him immediately after reading his story and falling in love with his sweet sad eyes. He is still in California, but we live in Washington, D.C. While the shelter has taken amazing care of him until now and even paid for his shoulder surgeries, they are not able to facilitate transport or provide further medical care.

Since we've adopted him Teddy will be neutered and microchipped tomorrow.  We will then go pick him up and bring him to his new home. Because of his size ( 67 lbs), he is not able to fly so we'll be driving from California to D.C. in a large car so he's comfortable and to reduce his anxiety.

We are so happy and honored to have been able to save Teddy's life and so excited to have him join our family. But we know a rescue - especially one that has suffered so much - comes with special needs and extra care. We are planning to have a behavioral therapist work with Teddy to help him interact with humans and other dogs. This is very important to us because we have 2 small kids ( 1 and 4 years old) and two small dogs ( 20lb and 28 lbs). We want to make sure everyone is safe and healthy and also give Teddy the best chance at having a happy life.

The $2000 fund will be used to pay for travel to and from California for Teddy and purchase a large comfortable crate to help him feel safe (recommended by the shelter). We hope to use the rest to pay for a proper therapist for him and vet bills to cover additional medical and dental work.

If you could pitch in a few dollars to help us give our little guy a chance at a new life, we'd appreciate it so so much. If you're able to share the link with your friends and family, that would also be very helpful. Teddy has suffered a lot and we're hoping to fill the rest of his life with lots of love and happiness.

You can see more of his photos and video on the @iloverescue Instagram page.
