I'm Katie and this year I've found myself in the privileged position of overseeing the well-being and management of the beautiful Roseisle Market Garden. Last year Roseisle Gardens was an experimental project run and supported solely by passionate volunteers... however it proved much more successful than any of us could have imagined.
This has given me the energy, vision and commitment to take the steps toward officially incorporating Roseisle Market Garden into a Social Enterprise business- which essentially means it's legally run as a business enterprise, but it's run with socially aware principles and any profits legally must be fed back into the business for the benefit of it's social objectives.
The garden project has 3 main social objectives based in the wish to improve our local community's health and well-being:
1. Providing fresh, organic nourishing food for sale.
2. Getting more bodies moving in the outdoors, hands in soil and hearts uplifted.
3. Reducing the carbon footprint of the community's food buying habits, with 0 miles of food processing and a policy of encouraging customers to BYO bags and containers.
Although I am heading this project, we have a strong passionate team wanting to support it toward success. Through the generosity of our landlord, our gardening guru and many others who have contributed resources already this year, we have all the seeds and enough tools and equipment to make this work. The one thing we don't have is money to help us through this 'hunger gap' period.
To ensure that this project is as abundant as we know it can be, we need approximately £5000 to pay for reliable and committed workers in this early party of the year- to ensure the garden is getting the healthiest possible input it needs in order to return a maximum harvest in peak season. That equates to approximately £500-£700 per week for 8-10 weeks. This input now would really help to put us in a strong position to ensure the financial health of the garden this year, next year and beyond. We would be deeply grateful for anything you could give.
Help us make the world a better place by transforming this little corner into a place of health and joy- to quote Charles Eisenstein, "for the more beautiful world our hearts know is possible".
